The Conseil québécois du théâtre would like to congratulate all the individuals who won a mandate in the municipal elections that concluded on November 7, 2021.

Throughout Quebec, citizens have entrusted these elected officials with an important part of the management of their municipality following an election campaign that lasted 54 days. We sincerely hope that those who will sit at the table of the various municipal councils will be cognisant of how important municipal contributions are to the development and influence of professional artistic activities.

While the performing arts community has been working hard to emerge from the crisis that has overwhelmed it for nearly two years now, we are convinced that its successful reconstruction will only be possible through the involvement of all levels of government. From this point of view, it is important to underscore the importance of adopting clear cultural policies that will allow us to highlight the commitment of cities and MRCs to artists from various communities.

Finally, we would also like to applaud the election of several women to head many of Quebec's major cities: Valérie Plante in Montreal, Catherine Fournier in Longueuil, France Bélisle in Gatineau, Évelyne Beaudin in Sherbrooke and Julie Dufour in Saguenay. These results, as well as the election of several candidates from the next generation of politicians, point to more diverse municipal councils across Quebec. We welcome this new political landscape, which encourages us to continue our efforts in our sector to promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
